Replacing your iPhone battery is about to get more expensive

Those with an iPhone should be aware that Apple will increase prices for battery replacements starting March 1, 2023. The increase only applies to those with an iPhone 13 or older. Battery replacement costs for any iPhone 14 or later model will remain the same.

How much will my iPhone battery replacement cost?

Apple will increase your iPhone battery trade-in price by $20 for all iPhone models 13 and older. The current prices to replace the batteries for these models are as follows:

$69 for a battery repair:

  • iPhone 13 Pro/Max
  • iPhone 13/mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro/Max
  • iPhone 12/mini
  • iPhone 11 Pro/Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone XS/Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhoneX.

$49 for a battery repair:

  • iPhone SE (all three generations)
  • iPhone 8/Plus
  • iPhone 7/Plus
  • iPhone 6S/Plus
  • iPhone 6/Plus
  • iPhone 5/5C.

On March 1, 2023, all models currently costing $69 to repair will drop to $89, and all models costing $49 to repair will drop to $69. These prices are still cheaper than what it costs to replace the battery in an iPhone series 14 or higher, which costs $99.

The iPhone 14 model has only been out for a few months, so no one should have to replace those batteries, which is why Apple is leaving that price as is.

However, it is important to note that these prices will only apply to those who do not have AppleCare or AppleCare+ plans for their devices. Those on these plans are eligible for a battery replacement at no additional cost.

Does this also apply to MacBook and iPad?

Yes, Apple will also increase the battery exchange price for the MacBook and iPad starting March 1, 2023. The MacBook Air battery replacement price will increase by $30 and the MacBook Pro battery replacement price will increase of $50. iPad battery replacement will increase by $20.

When should I replace my iPhone battery?

It is recommended that those of you who own an iPhone replace their batteries once they are below 80% health. This means that when fully charged, your iPhone retains less than 80% of the charge it held when new, which could lead to various device performance issues. Should I just buy a new phone instead?

It just depends on whether you prefer to have a newer phone model or not. A newer model will definitely have better features than your old one. However, it is much more expensive to buy a new phone than to replace the battery of your old one.
