Apple Revenue: First Quarter 2023 Overview Recap
Here’s what investors and analysts should keep in mind as they review Apple’s fiscal first quarter earnings report and follow the February 2 conference call:
- Key figures: Consensus expects revenue to fall nearly 2% year-over-year and EPS to fall nearly 8% from FY2022 levels.
- Sole outperformer: While most Apple segments will struggle to gain traction in the fiscal first quarter, the iPad will likely stand out as a rare winner.
- Better than feared? The iPhone is at the center of the supply chain debacle, but Apple likely gained a fair amount of market share in the fiscal first quarter.
- Best Home, Bad Neighbors: There’s mounting evidence that the PC industry is in a deep downturn cycle, but Apple’s Mac continues to outperform its peers.
- Slow growth: For me, the near-zero growth levels in the service sector are concerning. Will there be definite signs of recovery?
- Out of left field: Could Apple be using earnings day to announce layoffs? I find that unlikely, but still possible.
- AAPL could move on the guidance: Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri is expected to share the outlook during the earnings call, around 5:15 p.m. EST, as usual. It could be a stock mover.
