REED CITY – The newest addition to the Reed City business community encourages residents to be active while having fun.

The Fairway is a new virtual arcade that opened at 836 S. Chestnut St. in Reed City and features a variety of interactive video games and activities.

Owner Gary Bailey celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon cutting Jan. 27 at the venue.

The company has two simulation cabins where individuals and groups can enjoy various activities including golf, baseball, hockey, soccer, disc golf, bowling and special mini-games including zombie dodgeball .

Manager Nick Bailey said the space will encourage families to exercise.

“It’s going to be a modern arcade that will force you to exercise,” Bailey said. “Across the square we have two stations with VR headsets and three stations with Nintendo Switches, and all the games. We are going to ask you to move. We will also have educational games like Angry Birds.

The arcade will feature virtual reality headset games that include a wide variety of games and challenges. They will carry novelty items and supplies for board games and games, including Dungeons & Dragons.

Bailey said they wanted lots of options and products to offer that would be helpful to the community.

“We also have VR baseball props to actually measure people’s swings,” Bailey said. “They can work on their swing, and that will tell them what they need to do better. Currently we have two simulators that can handle eight people each.

The simulators cost $40 per hour and the virtual reality station costs $20 per hour to use the system which can support up to eight people. If a full group of eight people uses a virtual reality system, the cost is $5 per person.

Nintendo Switch gameplay costs $10 per hour for up to four people.

The Fairway also offers a selection of products for golfers and a golf packing station to help repair golf equipment. It will offer regular golf and disc golf leagues throughout the year.

“There are a lot of people saying there’s nothing to do here,” Bailey said. “Having something for the kids to do, or for families or individuals to do is going to be great. We will be open seven days a week, all year round. Many people are interested, we already reserve a lot of means for different things.

The owners of Fairway plan to expand their facilities to a larger facility over the next few years so they can expand their simulators and provide the community with more things to do.
