Sony halves its sales estimates for the first quarter PSVR2 spending in the market, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The company originally planned to flood the market with two million next-gen headsets, but inside sources now say those proposals have been whittled down to one million. This is apparently due to disappointing pre-order numbers.
The report then goes on to say that Sony plans to ship an additional 1.5 million PSVR2 headsets between April 2023 and March 2024. A supplier partner has been told to expect a reduction in display panel orders, but it could come back for more if demand for the device increases. PSVR2 is set to release on February 22, 2023 alongside flagship Horizon game Call of the Mountain and over 30 other launch titles.
From the origin PSVR The headset had sold five million units as of January 2020, the idea of having almost half of that total ready for purchase at launch suggested Sony is investing heavily in the optional PS5 add-on. If the report turns out to be true, the wrong pre-order numbers will be a bummer for Sony and could impact the time and effort it puts into the VR device.
On our side, a recent Getting Started with PSVR2 session revealed that supporting eye technology was the big game-changer. think they still haven’t gotten their main console to a real big leap into the future of gaming technology.”
